Purpose
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
My name is Victoria Alves, a Pro Master’s graduate student at the University of Florida majoring in Sports Journalism and Communications. During my time in Gainesville, Florida, I strived to make a positive difference in any way I could. I volunteered my time with the community, got involved in mentorship programs, and immersed myself in the culture. I also made sure to take advantage of all the opportunities available to me.
My capstone project had to emulate all that I had learned not only during my years as a graduate student but also from my previous experiences in order to complete my master's degree. With that in mind, I decided to create a multimedia website that would serve as a platform for connecting Gainesville and surrounding area residents with organized adult sports leagues.
GNV Leagues would provide a platform for these leagues to showcase their services and for adults looking for a way to fill any free time they had, to find what they are looking for. GNV Leagues would also give users the ability to search by sport, location, and other criteria. This would make it easy to find the desired league.
Sport is a fantastic way to build communities and bring people together. It encourages people to work together, develop relationships, and exercise. Many adults are looking for adults to participate here in Gainesville, but often only know through word of mouth. To make it easier for people to find these opportunities, it is worthwhile to create a centralized hub for people to find these adult sports which is why I've built GNV Leagues.
In addition, I’ve included personal stories of some active players from each individual sport included in this website. It was important to me that this website not only served as a way to access general information about the leagues, but also allow others to share and tell their personal experiences with sports and how it has affected their life positively so they can inspire other adults to do the same.
